About Makwa
Hi! My name is Makwa (Bear). I live on an Ojibwe Reservation in Minnesota. Each fall, we harvest wild rice that grows organically in shallow lakes with muddy bottoms. My ancestors used birch bark canoes for this job, but we use modern ones. In the past, wild rice was the Ojibwe’s main source of food. I like to eat wild rice in soup. |
